The
Economic Support Unit is responsible for administering all of the Income
Maintenance programs. These programs are designed to assist low and
middle-income families meet their primary needs and increase their
self-sufficiency.
Programs
administered by the Economic Support Unit:
When you call to request services, you will be asked
to provide information for all persons in the household, including but not
limited to: full legal name, date of birth, social security number, income
and assets. Non-financial and financial eligibility criteria must be met
in order to qualify for assistance. Each program has different
requirements. Eligibility is determined on an individual case basis.

an online tool that provides Wisconsin individuals information on
eligibility, enables individuals to apply online for benefits, check
current benefits and report changes. Additional information can be

Economic Support Unit has 30 days
to process applications that are not priority service. Please do
NOT submit more than one application.

Wisconsin
Medicaid is a state and federal assistance program that helps low
income and medically needy individuals pay medical expenses. It is an
entitlement program that provides health care for low-income adults
and children. Benefits may be backdated 3 months from the date of

Healthy Start

specifically designed to assist pregnant women, babies and children

Family
Planning Waiver
Family Planning
Waiver is a program within Wisconsin Medicaid to assist women receive
family planning services. A few of the services provided within the
Family Planning Waiver program include: Contraceptive services and
supplies, pap tests, tubal ligation, and treatment of Sexually

Purchase Plan
Medicaid Purchase
Plan is a program within Wisconsin Medicaid to assist individuals with
disabilities who work obtain health care coverage. Applicants within
this program are subject to higher income and asset limits. In some
cases, the individual may need to pay a premium. The following web

Medicare Premium Assistance
The Medicare Premium Assistance program within
Wisconsin Medicaid individuals eligible for Medicare and meet the
income and asset limit. This program is sometimes referred to as the
Buy-In program. Qualifying individuals may receive assistance
with Medicare premiums, coinsurance and deductibles. The following

The Caretaker

BadgerCare+
Badgercare is
another program that provides health care coverage to families that
are uninsured. Badgercare requires applicants to meet income
guidelines, have children living in the household and that the family
is not covered by another health insurance plan. In some cases,
the individual may be required to pay a premium for Badgercare.

Food Share Program
The Food Share
program was created to help stop hunger and to improve nutrition and
health. It is intended to be a supplemental amount to assist families
with the cost of food. Qualifying individuals receive an allotment
each month based on their household size, monthly net income after
deductions. Food Share benefits may be used to purchase food
including breads, cereal, fruits, vegetables, meats and dairy

Energy Assistance Program
The Wisconsin Home Energy
Assistance Program This program assists eligible
households with their energy costs. It is a one-time payment a
household may receive each heating season (Oct. 1 – May 15). The
benefit amount varies based on household size, income level, and
annual household heating costs. The payments are sent directly to the
