At the request of the Zoning Committee and the Zoning Department the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution in March of 2015 to support and fund a comprehensive revision of the County’s Zoning Ordinance. The Ordinance was first adopted in 1965 and has not undergone a complete review and revision in the 50 years since its adoption. As the Ordinance has become outdated and lacks concise guidance with regard to current and evolving land use patterns and objectives it is appropriate to review and revise the Zoning Ordinance.
Buffalo County is a member of the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission and has contracted to utilize their services for consulting and oversight of the comprehensive revision process. The Zoning Committee in conjunction with the Zoning Department will act as the working group in developing the revised ordinance and will typically meet the first week of each month. The working group will move through the entire ordinance addressing one chapter of the ordinance at a time.
The entire revision process is expected to take at least two years.
