Dietary fluoride supplements provide systemic fluoride that is incorporated into children’s developing teeth. Fluoride decreases the incidence of dental caries (tooth decay) in primary (baby) and permanent teeth.
Fluoride supplements are available to children ages 6 to 16 years. A water test measuring the fluoride level is needed for obtaining fluoride supplements. Water test kits may be picked up at the Buffalo County Department of Health and Human Services. There is no water testing needed if your household has the community water. If a community adds fluoride into the water, children living in that community are not eligible for fluoride supplements.
